DIY Easy, Cute, and Nerdy Valentine’s Day Wreath

Who doesn’t love some nerdy Valentine’s Day stuff? I needed a wreath for February, and, of course, the first thing I thought of was heart containers. I’d never made anything with Perler beads before, however, so I thought I’d give it a shot. It turned out pretty cute!

I purchased the huge thing of mixed beads because I got a killer sale on Amazon. It takes time to sort them out, but what we did was sort them by color group (blues, purples, greens, etc.) into mason jars, and then sort them further after that. We just binged on Netflix while sorting to make it go faster– or feel faster, anyway!

It was easiest to start with the outline of the pieces. I just did a Google search for the sprites from the original NES Legend of Zelda and copied each sprite pixel for pixel.

Yeah! He looks awesome, doesn’t he? Now, I am a complete novice with this, so I wasn’t sure if I needed to melt the beads to form a solid piece with no holes left, or to let the holes show a bit, but I went for the solid piece after accidentally melting the very first piece unevenly. Oops.

For the wreath itself, I just cut strips of tulle and then tied them on like so. I used a ton of it and bunched them all together so none of the white showed through.

And that’s it!

I am super happy with it. Some of the pieces aren’t quite as straight as I had hoped they would be, but I learned a lot doing this project and I’m confident that the next one will┬ábe even better!
